At present, in the state of Assam, 100 trainings have been identified in coordination with the Ministry of MSME. Work is being done on 2 proposals under the SFURTI scheme. TRIFED is also working to promote Geographical Indication products in the state of Assam.

A holistic model of MFP-led tribal development, incorporating MSP for MFP scheme and Van Dhan scheme and using a variety of schemes, for the MFP scheme selected in the MFP scheme It is envisaged to fix the Minimum Support Price (MSP), which provides a means of livelihood and cash income to a large number of people who live in or near forests and depend on forests for their livelihood.
At present, a total of Rs 34.79 lakh has been procured under MSP for MFP scheme in Assam, which includes thatch, bamboo, cane, hill broom, medicinal plants, Ahoi and Koroi. Under Van Dhan scheme by TRIFED 128 VDVKCs have been established benefiting more than 37,786 families.
A delegation of TRIFED led by Praveer Krishna, Managing Director (MD), TRIFED met with the Chief Minister of Assam, Hemant Biswa Sarma at Assam House, New Delhi on August 8, 2021.
The objective of the meeting was to identify a roadmap for setting up a comprehensive Van Dhan network for 7,000 Van Dhan Self Help Groups under 350 VDVKCs, 5 TriFood Tribal Food Parks and a Digital Marketing Network.
In this meeting, 7 MPs from this region also attended. Praveer Krishna gave a presentation in the meeting, in which it was told in the context of Van Dhan model for tribal development and how the state of Assam should get benefits through it. could.
The presentation also explained the importance of minor forest produce in the tribal economy and the various initiatives taken for it.
Farmers will get direct benefit
Following this meeting, TRIFED and the Government of Assam are planning to develop an enterprise model for Van Dhan Yojana, which includes handling/packaging, testing, demonstration centers for Minor Forest Produce/silk/lakh agricultural production, cluster level tertiary Components with forward linkages including setting up of common facilities in District HQ for processing units, marketing and branding will also be included.
These initiatives will be implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, TRIFED, Government of Assam, MSME, MoFPI and MoRD. These schemes were explained in detail in the presentation organized.
In addition, TRIFED proposes to develop a marketing and logistics plan for promotion of tribal products in the North Eastern region, where it plans to empanel over 4,000 artisans and identify tribal products, Which can be registered under Geographical Indication with a proposed budget of Rs 150 crore.
It was also informed during the meeting that through this scheme the state of Assam can be greatly benefited and can play a leading role in the direction of empanelment of artisans and can also provide incentives to their tribal products by using this scheme. .
TRIFED has entered into MoUs with various Ministries, where it is proposed to further develop the value chain for Van Dhan Vikas Kendra clusters set up in convergence. has been identified.
Two proposals are being developed under the SFURTI scheme. In convergence with MoFPI, 10 mini-trifood units have been proposed and 4 Honey FPOs have been allotted in association with the Ministry of Agriculture.
To provide support in this regard, for “Marketing and Logistics Development for Promotion of Tribal Products from North Eastern Region”, it will be implemented in all 8 states of North East including Assam.
Through this, tribal products worth Rs 6.625 crore will be procured by TRIFED through more than 250 tribal suppliers by next year. These products will be sold through the chain of Tribes India outlets. New Tribes India outlets are planned to be set up in major cities/towns of Assam.
A Tribal Mall is also being planned to be opened to promote tribal artisans and to provide a brand recognition to the heritage products being produced by them. Along with preserving the tribal heritage and generating local employment- Along with protecting the interests of the tribal growers, TRIFED is also working towards promoting Geographical Indication products in the state of Assam.

In the meeting organized in this way, the plans of TRIFED in the state of Assam were outlined and for this the support of the Chief Minister of Assam was sought.
It is hoped that under the leadership and protection of the Chief Minister of Assam, the implementation of these beneficial schemes can be expedited, through which the entire tribal population of Assam can get its benefits.
In the last two years, the new mechanism for marketing of Minor Forest Produce (MFP) through Minimum Support Price (MSP) and development of value chain for MFP has positively impacted the tribal eco-system. Van Dhan Yojana which means Van Dhan, which is an initiative towards generating livelihood for the tribals by harnessing the wealth of Van Dhan.
This program envisages setting up of tribal entrepreneurs to generate livelihood, which has provided an opportunity to increase the income of the tribal people and more than 53 lakh tribal families have been covered under this.
TRIFED, as a nodal agency is implementing several notable initiatives towards tribal empowerment. TRIFED is providing necessary marketing opportunities for the tribal products on which the livelihood of the tribal people depends.
The main objective of this thinking is to empower the tribal communities with knowledge, tools and information media by which they can prove to be able to carry forward their programs in a more systematic and scientific manner.
