Area production and productivity of crops in india 2020-21
The farmers, who have not cultivated Kharif crops, have already started preparing for the early cultivation of mustard. Some farmers have kept the field vacant only for sowing mustard. Dr Naveen Singh, an agricultural expert at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research’s Institute of Genetics, Delhi, says that those farmers who want to cultivate sugarcane, early vegetables in February and onion and garlic in January, such farmers keep their fields empty. Early cultivation of mustard can be very profitable for them and they can get additional profits.
These varieties can be cultivated
Dr Naveen Singh says that such fields remain vacant from September to January. In such a situation, farmers can earn profits by planting a good variety of Indian mustard, which is ready to be cooked in a short time. Dr Singh says that Pusa has developed some varieties, which are ready to ripen soon and the production is also high.
He told that the farmer Bhai Pusa can cultivate the leading variety. It matures in 110 days and gives 13.5 quintal yield in one hectare. Apart from this, early cultivation of Pusa Tarak and Pusa Mehak varieties can be done. Both these varieties mature in about 110-115 days and give an average yield of 15-20 quintals per hectare.
Dr. Singh gave information about another variety, which gets ready by cooking in the shortest time. Dr Singh said that the variety named Pusa Sarson- 25 is ready in 100 days. By sowing Pusa mustard- 25 in one hectare, 14.5 quintal yield can be obtained. Apart from this, there is another variety, Pusa Mustard – 27. It takes 110-115 days to mature and yields up to 15.5 quintals per hectare.
Harvesting will be done by the first week of January and the crop will be saved from the wrath of pests
Agricultural scientist Dr. Singh said that apart from all these varieties, we have prepared a most innovative variety, named Pusa Mustard – 28. It matures in 105-110 days and yields 18 to 20 quintals per hectare. Dr Naveen Singh said that all these varieties can be sown around 15th September and they are harvested by the first week of January.
Describing the benefits of early ripening crops in short duration, Dr. Singh said that the production of mustard is saved from the wrath of Mahu or Chepa pests. Apart from this, these crops are also disease free. Apart from this, by sowing these varieties, farmers can get three crops in a year in their field.
